![]() Potentially the most comprehensive SIS out there. ![]() I work for a company called Campus Management Corp in the US and we have a fully functional SIS with a Portal, Alumni system, CRM, Financial Aid, BBAY, Registration, Admissions, Financials (accounting package), HR, Fundraising, and more. Gather your functional requirements because this will be key in selecting a solution. Hi - Although Michael's response is a bit dated his thoughts are right on. The key is to get down your functional requirements for each component before going shopping. Perhaps you can do most to all of what you are looking for for a reasonable cost by extending Moodle, though (for instance the 1.9 gradebook looks like it will provide over grade tracking/reporting, help us finish the JSR-170 part so we can have a file repository, and with that Student, Staff, and Alumni portals will be much easier, and look at some of the creative ways the Moodle networking functions let you run multiple Moodle installs for different groups (student portfolios, etc). Timeline-When do you need these features?Ģ) Then check with the Moodle Partners, many of them have done similar systems, either by extending Moodle or by integrating with other systems, or some combination of the two, the best choices for this will depend on your timeline and budget and institutional mission (whether building new open source tools ties in with your institutional mission or not).Įxpect to pay a good deal if your feature set is rich and you need them all right away, a typical Banner install for a 7000 student system would be ~ 1m US for the license/setup, and take 1-2 years to implement (staff training and file conversion can be very time consuming on this part).įor the financial side, you might look at Kuali financials, being developed by Hawaii, Indiana, Mellon, etc. Maximum budget-How much can you pay for these features? Hi, these would be my suggestions to start with:ġ) Come up with a list of requirements for your SIS (it looks like you are on track-identify functional requirements for your Ideally it would have a marketing side to it (similar to a CRM), an alumni module, a student web portal (ie to access grades, submit assignments, obtain materials), act as a document sharing/distribution system, links up with financial system etc etc (ie don't know what else these SMS's should do) I am struggling to find a student management system (SMS) that is suitable for higher education in Australia (that doesn't cost a fortune ie not one that only the Universities can afford to pay for).Ĭan anyone help with any suggestions? It would be ideal if I could get a list of SMS's out there (with associated price), but there doesn't seem to be any such listing.Īt the very least the SMS would be a database which contains student data. At the end of the day it is very hard to get a good idea.Īnyway, the situation that I am in is that I work for a private higher education institution in Australia (ie we deliver BBA's, MBA's etc). Recently someone has added a post saying that it is good (this person works/used to work at eMinerva). Then I came across the page in a Moodle forum (which was brought up by the google search) where some people were saying that eMinerva isn't a very good system. I've seen a demo and it seemed pretty good. eMinerva is a student management system for Schools to Vocational and even Higher Education. I came across Moodle when doing a Google search of 'eMinerva'. ![]() I'm new here and doubt if i'm even posting this in the right place. ![]() (A colleague of mine said it made her feel like “work was getting done” and it motivated her).Īnd while people might say just use a typewriter, we all know there’re times when you can’t, and being able to have the joy of this design and comfort when editing docs for work or school is wonderful. Yes, it’s louder than a typical laptop keyboard, but people actually seem to like it. It looks great, I always get compliments on it. Good mechanical keyboards aren’t too much cheaper. I got that when replacing a less expensive typewriter-inspired mechanical keyboard that conked out on me after about 5 years of use. However, it’s cheaper than the apple Magic Keyboard for an iPad Pro and it not only can hold my iPad or ereader but connects to my Mac as well so it’s more functional. I have the qwerkywriter keyboard at the moment, which is definitely on the pricey side. (Meanwhile, I've taken up writing letters by hand instead of emails to the alternate amusement/consternation of my friends.) Sorry for the wall o' text. I think, bottom line, writers are constantly searching for tools that will be invisible while they work, alternating with tools that will distract them from their work. I like it because each click denotes a tiny bit of progress, I still get those rich typey associations, and my keys don't jam (I use an Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard and an external monitor). So I went back to using what I've used for about ten years now, a simple app called Typewriter Keyboard that gives you the sounds of typewriter keys (at adjustable volume) without the hassles of typewriting in a computer age. Also, reviews seemed to emphasize terrible customer service. I looked at those keyboards that have old-style typewriter keycaps, but in my view they are grotesquely overpriced. I even tried a few out and couldn't believe how much effort it took to write even a sentence, let alone a page. I stopped using a typewriter a long time ago, but I often feel a yen to get one again, I think because I associate it with the ease of youthful writing. WH Auden advised young poets to use a typewriter so that they wouldn't fall in love with their own handwriting (he made a rude comparison which I won't include here). The typewriter clearly has a nostalgic pull for lots of people, myself included, perhaps because it has very Victorian bones, and a rich lineage through Hemingway and on past Bob Dylan (yes, he wrote his songs for decades on a typewriter, as did Leonard Cohen), and don't forget its honoured place in journalism (I love the clatter of the newsroom in All the President's Men). I have written on a mechanical typewriter, an electric typewriter, a desktop computer, and a laptop (and of course using a pen and yellow legal pads). Same car, same guy at all three locations. I might drive to the bank for a little cash, then swing by the fast-food restaurant for a hamburger and cola, followed by a quick jaunt to the liquor store for an aperitif. As long as I am in my car, I can interact with things that have drive-up windows. From a practical perspective, it means that I can drive to all three locations and never have to get out of my car. ![]() As a consumer of hamburgers, liquor, and money (for hamburgers and liquor), I go to each place for entirely different reasons, but there is an advantage to my knowing that all three locations have drive-up windows. ![]() The point is that fast-food restaurants, banks, and liquor stores really don't have all that much in common, other than the drive-up window. At least they did when I lived in Texas-at that time the drinking age was 19, and as a 19-year-old living in Texas, I thought that drive-up liquor stores were a very clever idea. I said that the fast-food restaurant was encapsulated because I only had three touch points where I interacted with it, even though a whole lot happened between the time I placed my order and picked up my order.įast-food restaurants aren't the only places that use the drive-up window "interface." Banks use them, too. The fast-food restaurant I was thinking about when I wrote that example had three points of interaction for me: the first was the menu and speaker where I placed my order, the second was the first window, where I paid, and the third was the second window where I picked up my order. When I talked about encapsulation, I used the fast-food restaurant drive-up window as an example. In the immediate sense, at least, code reuse isn't the object of this activity, but as you will see, it does make it possible to streamline the code that interacts with objects that share the same interface, which is why it can be so helpful. When this is the case, no code is shared. This task involves defining the interface itself and then modifying to classes to indicate that they both implement this common interface. If two class share a common set of methods, it is possible to link these two classes together by saying they share a common interface. At the same time, it's convenient to formally establish this relationship so that the different objects can be used in similar contexts. There are some cases when you have two objects (or classes) that are related and that perform the same tasks, but they both do it in such a fundamentally different way that establishing the class/subclass relationship doesn't really buy you anything. Simply put, you don't have to write any new methods for the subclass to get the functionality resident in the superclass. The benefit to this, so the story goes, is that it enables code reuse. Although the subclass may optionally reimplement or override a method from the parent class, it doesn't have to reimplement any method unless it wants to modify what that method does. Nevertheless, when one class is a subclass of another, it shares all the same members with the parent class. Other languages, such as Objective-C, refer to a similar concept as a protocol. In REALbasic, an interface is used much in the same way that the term is used with Java. This is also one of those areas where the term is used differently in different programming languages. Interfaces are another means by which you encapsulate your program. When talking about Interfaces, you say that a class implements a particular Interface. With subclassing, one class can be a subclass of another. Interfaces are an alternative to subclassing. ![]() Interfaces and Component-Oriented Programming In this section I will review some relatively more advanced programming techniques you can use to extend the functionality of your REALbasic classes. Hisham Abdallah who is a Biotech scientist, and while complaining about how delicate making this sauce is, he pointed out that the reason the sauce breaks is likely due to certain violations that are happening to the process of “emulsification.” It turns out that a chemical reaction called “emulsification” is at the very heart of the making of the garlic sauce. One day while discussing the process of making this garlic sauce with a dear family friend, Dr. The intent at the end is the same, and whatever the name is, a successful garlic sauce has a white, creamy texture similar to that of mayo, sour cream or “Labneh” and with a pungent aroma of lemony garlic, and a mouth-watering tong-tingling blood-pressure-lowering flavor that is a perfect marriage between garlic and lemon juice.Ĭhicken Shish Tawook With Lebanese Garlic Paste How to Make Toum: Garlic Sauce Secrets In the US it is generally referred to as garlic sauce, however the fact of the matter is that it’s closer to being a thick and fluffy paste than a sauce. I've spent a lot of time over the last 6 months rebuilding this patch and I'm now suffering from modders fatigue I no longer have time and do not want to spend any more time modding FIFA 14. I found some new spare time and I have now managed to rebuild the patch from scratch. Unfortunately the harddrive I had FIFA 14 on became corrupt. Sorry for the massive delay on releasing this. It's huge so please note you will need a staggering 45GB of free space to install. In a shell, it's basically the same process.
